COVID EDUCATOR/TESTER

  • As a GBHWC COVID Educator and Tester, under the SAMHSA grant, the main responsibility was to provide information and resources regarding COVID to our consumer population, as well as GBHWC employees.


  • Received training at RANLAB DPHSS building on how to administer covid testing for employees for staff.


  • Administered COVID19 Tests which are done on consumers for admission into our inpatient units, and for staff who believe or are suspected to be in contact with a lab confirmed COVID19 positive individual.


  • Assessed individuals to determine the type of COVID19 test to be administered and provided them with educational resources. Tests that were provided: Rapid – Abbott Binax Now and Flow Flex Antigen, Confirmatory – Abbott ID Now and PCR.


  • Weekly COVID 19 testing was done for unvaccinated employees until March 5, 2022, where a new mandate stated employees no longer required regular testing.


  • Ran vaccination clinics every Thursday from 9AM-3PM while facilitating the process and flow by handing out immunization forms to be filled out and entering the data in GuWebIz system.


  • Practiced and enforced infection control while conducting COVID testing to ensure the safety of others and ourselves by properly disposing equipment and PPE appropriately and accordingly.


  • Members were to utilize an assessment guide to determine the urgency, type of test, and education to provide for each consumer/employee inquiring.


  • Tasks within a department was mitigated to assist and complete:
  • HR — scanning inactive files into the system and properly discarding them in a timely manner.
  • AIU — scanning files to be digitalized and returning files when completed to be discarded. (Finance Dept.)
  • Medical Record and Clinic — assist with attaining and delivering prescriptions or medications, as well as obtaining and returning patient medical records for intake workers or staff from the unit.

  • Continued to run COVID19 Testing and education.


  • Assessed clients upon admission into our units for any COVID symptoms and handed them the DPHSS COVID testing form to fill out.


  • Called the admitting unit accordingly to relay that the consumer has been cleared for COVID and is ready for admission into the unit.


  • Reported all COVID tests to DPHSS by scanning and emailing results all negative and positive results.


  • Updated inventory, inputted data and acquired the necessary materials and equipment, reporting and documenting.


  • Filed DPHSS COVID testing forms accordingly in binders which are organized and separated from employees and consumers.


  • Maintaining proper workflow for obtaining proper resources and holding adequate contact with providers and employees (ie, Public Health Laboratory, GBHWC healthcare providers, intake/social workers, etc.).


  • Established and organized a system for contacting employees and Point of Contact consumers. Tracking inventory and necessary supplies for regular operations.


  • Adjusting assessment guidelines when necessary due to the changes in local mandate(s) or CDC regarding testing.


  • Implemented a digital filing system for efficient retrieval. Established individual folders for both consumers and employees test results.


  • A COVID19 questionnaire/survey was created to assess the concerns related to COVID19.


  • The roles of both educator and tester were aimed to curb the spread of COVID-19 through testing, education, community engagement.


  • Gathered and organized materials to support operations.

  • Provided outpatient care services in the psychiatry department. This includes post follow up visits for consumers who have previously been admitted into our inpatient units. Or for new clients self-referring for medication management services.
