  • Ensuring the agency (CJPA) is in compliance with all OJJDP Title II Formula Grant requirements.
  • Ensuring awarded sub-grantees are in compliance with all grant award requirements and conditions.
  • Coordinate plans and projects with partnering government agencies, sub-grantees, and law enforcement entities.
  • Develop a Compliance Monitoring Manual (CMM) to monitor secured juvenile facilities within the CNMI.
  • Strategize and conduct compliance checks on monitored, secure facilities within the CNMI.
  • Collect, compile, and review all submitted reports and data relevant to the OJJDP Title II Formula grants.

  • Carry out the service, execution or enforcement of various forms of court orders.
  • Perform bailiff duties during court proceedings, maintaining the courtroom a safe, secured, and orderly setting.
  • Transport arrestees to correctional department after sentencing proceeding or by order of the court.
  • Provide safety and security to judiciary personnel, participants in court proceedings, and the general public visiting judicial facilities.

  • Undergo firearms training & certification equivalent to that of a police officer.
  • Undergo related law enforcement training & certification either on-island or off-island.

Criminal Justice NMC Student Intern

  • Participate in ride alongs with police officers from various sections to experience law enforcement day-to-day operations and interactions with the community.
  • Partner with officers under DPS Boating Safety Section, DPS Traffic Section and with detectives of the DPS Bureau of Investigations.
  • Familiarize with the CNMI Commonwealth Code (Title 6: Crimes and Criminal Procedure & Title 9: Vehicle Code).
  • Learn how to communicate with dispatch and other officers. via radio; input information regarding arrests or traffic violations to a report system; write traffic citations.
  • Undergo first-hand experience on daily patrol operations, how police officers respond to an emergency and how they conduct arrests.
  • Complete a comprehensive report submitted to my college program advisor detailing what I learned, experienced, and participated throughout the internship and how the internship has shaped my understanding in pursuing career paths in the criminal justice field.
